Trinity X (Ten) August 28, 2011

Services this Week: Parish of St Peter, Fredericton, N. B.

August 31 midweek Holy Communion 7 p. m.
Sept. 4 TRINITY XI Holy Communion 8 a.m.
Sept 4 Trinity X Holy Communion and Holy Baptism (3x) 11 a.m.

We welcome all who are worshipping with us during this Trinity season. St Peter's is a specifically Prayer Book Parish theologically as well as liturgically. What this means is that traditional liturgy (services) are the worshipping expression of normative Anglican, (i.e., of the Anglican Communion) belief. We hope that you find your time in our midst spiritually refreshing and beneficial.

St Michael’s Youth Camp was again a smashing success with a goodly number of very impressive, engaged and devout teenagers in attendance!

The Fredericton Food bank: The Food Bank asks for a focus on ‘meal in a can’ items such as canned stews, canned beans or canned pasta. Back to Church Sunday (scheduled for September 25th) will be held again this fall. Please begin thinking and praying about this initiative!

Confirmation Classes will resume on September 11 at 10:15 a.m. // Sunday School REGISTRATION Sept 11
Sunday School resumes Sept 18th. Note new routine: Children come to worship at 11 a.m. and then leave at the announcements for Sunday School in the Parish hall which then lasts until after service – this was one of the new initiatives decided as a result of our NCD survey and parish meeting! We still need a teacher for the second class!

King’s Landing: Fr Hebb has agreed to 2 King’s Landing Evening Prayer at 3 p.m. engagements this summer on September 4 and 18. Why not join him at the Landing – transportation provided!

Fr Hebb is glad to be back home to St Peter’s His travels and sabbatical reflections have increased his sense of appreciation and thankfulness for being Canadian and Anglican. As for being Canadian, having been in the trenches at Vimy Ridge, walked the fields of Passchendaele and strode the sands of Juno Beach one appreciates what others have sacrificed to ensure our freedom and prosperity. As for Anglican, I encountered many English new rites services which left me cold, confused and unmoved. The privilege we have in this diocese to worship God according to traditional Anglican forms using the Book of Common Prayer is a blessing few fully realize – me included. Sadly, I guess, one only fully appreciates a blessing once it is removed or one is removed from it – such was the case for me during my sabbatical stay of five weeks at Norwich Cathedral.

Latest Copies of The Anglican Planet (TAP) are sadly all gone – they had a decided St Peter’s twist again this month. Note the financial appeal they have launched for support to continue and maybe consider helping out in that department – our Parish sure has done well by them!

ACW Diocesan Quiet Day Sept 7 at Camp Medley: Registration 9:30 a.m., worship 10 a.m. Guest speaker Heather Miller on her trip to Ghana, cold pot luck lunch at noon and day ends at 4 p.m.
ACW monthly meeting Tuesday Sept 13 at 7 p.m. in parish hall.
