We hope that you find your time in our midst spiritually refreshing and beneficial.

Fr Hebb requires eye surgery in Halifax on Monday Jan 23. (left eye) For ease of check-up visits to Halifax, he will be recuperating with family in Nova Scotia. Sunday services are covered for three Sundays and Fr Ian Wetmore of St Mary’s Devon has agreed to cover emergencies. Prayers are requested for a successful surgery and an uneventful recovery!

Vestry News from Dec 11, 2011: Year-end discussion included the subject of payments into the diocese – we are asked for exactly $13,860.00. It was decided to pay at least $9,400.00 – (10% of last year’s total offerings). [Our actual payment was $10,000.00]. NCD initiatives were reviewed: Both the teaching outreach (Parables sessions) and the new Sunday School scheduling were deemed successes. Fr Hebb did not credit the visiting initiative a success. One aspect of this is the once monthly delivery of video-recorded sermons/talks to our shut-ins and elderly – this has not yet come into being! Dr A. Klinck gave an update on work being done in preparation for our application to Ottawa requesting St Peter’s Church be recognized as a National Historic Site. Finally, a Nominations Committee of Wilfred Alliston, Mark Fisher & Rector Hebb was struck to solicit interest in serving on the vestry and/or as synod delegates and alternates for 2012. New members are desired. Please speak to any of these persons to express an interest – you do NOT have to wait to be asked!

ACW News: Bible Study for the World Day of Prayer is Monday Feb 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Brunswick St Baptist Church. Shirley Moir is our Parish’s rep.

Vestry News: Vestry reviewed the start-up and initial status of the Parish’s three NCD initiated programs that is; the new Sunday school timing arrangement, the ad hoc visiting committee and the outreach teaching (Parables) session. There was discussion of the Parish’s Cemetery Fund which has built up to a sizeable amount over the centuries. The Rector and treasurer reminded Vestry that we are legally and morally bound to use only the interest from that fund and that exclusively towards the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery proper – it cannot be used to repair the church building or to pay any other operating bills! Much discussion was held concerning Turkey Supper preparations and the sizeable workforce required. Ongoing discussion included the subject of rectory maintenance costs versus income generated by rentals and it was determined that a comparison of same for the past ten years would be a good study document.

An update was also received on preparations for our application for National Historic Site recognition.

Rededication of Ste Anne’s Chapel of Ease, Westmorland St., Sunday Oct., 30 at 4 p.m. All welcome

King’s Landing: Fr Hebb has agreed to 2 King’s Landing Evening Prayer at 3 p.m. engagements this summer on September 4 and 18. Why not join him at the Landing – transportation provided!

Fr Hebb is glad to be back home to St Peter’s His travels and sabbatical reflections have increased his sense of appreciation and thankfulness for being Canadian and Anglican. As for being Canadian, having been in the trenches at Vimy Ridge, walked the fields of Passchendaele and strode the sands of Juno Beach one appreciates what others have sacrificed to ensure our freedom and prosperity. As for Anglican, I encountered many English new rites services which left me cold, confused and unmoved. The privilege we have in this diocese to worship God according to traditional Anglican forms using the Book of Common Prayer is a blessing few fully realize – me included. Sadly, I guess, one only fully appreciates a blessing once it is removed or one is removed from it – such was the case for me during my sabbatical stay of five weeks at Norwich Cathedral.

Latest Copies of The Anglican Planet (TAP) are sadly all gone – they had a decided St Peter’s twist again this month. Note the financial appeal they have launched for support to continue and maybe consider helping out in that department – our Parish sure has done well by them!

The Fredericton Food bank: The Food Bank asks for a focus on ‘meal in a can’ items such as canned stews, canned beans or canned pasta.
Back to Church Sunday (scheduled for September 25th) will be held again this fall. Please begin thinking and praying about this initiative!

Confirmation Classes will resume on September 11 at 10:15 a.m.

Sunday School resumes Sept 18th. Note new routine: Children come to worship at 11 a.m. and then leave at the announcements for Sunday School in the Parish hall which then lasts until after service – this was one of the new initiatives decided as a result of our NCD survey and parish meeting!

King’s Landing: Fr Hebb has agreed to 2 King’s Landing Evening Prayer at 3 p.m. engagements this summer on September 4 and 18. Why not join him at the Landing – transportation provided!

Vestry meeting August 21 12:30 p.m. in Parish hall – this was the date chosen back in April!

Latest Copies of The Anglican Planet (TAP) are at the rear – they have a decided St Peter’s twist again this month – see the last page. Note also the financial appeal they have launched for support to continue and maybe consider helping out in that department – our Parish sure has done well by them!

What this means is that traditional liturgy (services) are the worshipping expression of normative Anglican, (i.e., of the Anglican Communion) belief. General Parish Meeting on NCD UPDATE: AT our meeting on Sunday March 27, after soup and chilli, discussion on the NCD survey results ensued. It was generally agreed that the survey reflected our Parish’s reality – warts and all! Our (greatest) weaknesses lie in the area of personal spirituality and evangelism (broadly understood). Good discussion centered around what forms evangelism would/should take for traditional Anglicans. Three specific initiatives were proposed by those gathered to help address our situation. I. A Christian study group, open to the entire surrounding community, focusing on Jesus’ teaching in the Parables will be offered next fall in the parish hall. II. An ad hoc group of parishioners interested in friendly visits to fellow parishioners (elderly and shut-in) will be formed and given some structure and focus under Fr Hebb’s auspices. III. Sunday School time and structure will be altered in September to reflect a new era. Parents and children will be encouraged to attend worship at 11 a.m. with children and teachers exiting before the sermon for Sunday School in the Parish hall. After the 11 a.m. service parents will proceed to the hall shortly after noon to pick-up their children.

Needed: In the Fall, that is September, a Sunday School teacher for our second class – please speak to Kim Greechan for details. Youngest Sunday School class is looking for a small book case for storage space in their room – if anyone have one to donate; speak with Karen D., Ruth B, Lori D or Kim O.

Thank you to our organist, choir, Sunday School teachers and students, altar guild, sexton, servers, cleaners, readers and the flower lady for their work this past week. Much has to be done by many people to make for a smooth running Holy Week. Thanks from the Rector!

The Hebb’s, Ross, Linda, Sarah and Benjamin wish all a happy and holy Easter.

Vestry Meeting NEWS: Vestry of Feb 13 appointed Willard Fram as Parish treasurer and Brenda Smith as Vestry Clerk. Both persons have previously served faithfully for years in these positions. Vestry welcomed two new members; Ria Neish and Anne Klinck. After a time of sharing relating to each person’s connection to St Peter’s the treasurer presented his report. The report was sobering. Expenses exceeded income by roughly $2,000.00 in January. The treasurer had to “borrow’ funds from the memorial account – funds which must be replaced. Specific plans for Natural Church Development (NCD) survey Sunday were finalized. Prolonged discussion of the condition, status and future of the Rectory building came next. Potential repairs, the difficulty in renting and finding appropriate tenants and the long-term usefulness of having a rectory were all discussed. It was decided to reaffirm our “no-pets” policy and to limit occupancy to five persons maximum. {A lease was signed on Tuesday Feb 15th} It was also decided to hire a carpentry firm (King Construction) to do a professional assessment of the state of the building in March. To pay for this, special envelopes are available at the rear of the church to raise the estimated $500.00 this will cost. It was further decided to have our annual Shrove Tuesday Supper on March 8 – Mary, Frankie and Brenda are to be the organizing committee. It was decided to reaffirm our “no-pets” policy and to limit occupancy to five persons maximum. {A lease was signed on Tuesday} It was also decided to hire a carpentry firm to do a professional assessment of the state of the building in March. To pay for this, special envelopes are to be made available at the rear of the church to raise the estimated $500.00 this will cost. It was further decided to have our annual Shrove Tuesday Supper on March 8 – Mary, Frankie and Brenda are to be the organizing committee. Ria Neish gave an overview of her upcoming Lenten “Lectio” talks scheduled for Lent’s Sunday afternoons at 4 p.m. Fr Hebb stressed the uniqueness of Ria’s talks as well as the opportunity presented by the Adult St Michael’s Conference to be held at St Peter’s April 8 and 9th. Fr Hebb reported that he has secured clerical coverage for all 14 Sundays of his upcoming Sabbatical Leave.

The Rector is most appreciative that some folks did sign up for February snow shovelling.

We welcome all who are worshipping with us this holy season. St Peter's is a specifically Prayer Book Parish theologically as well as liturgically. What this means is that traditional liturgy (services) are the worshipping expression of normative Anglican, (i.e., of the Anglican Communion) belief. We hope that you find your time in our midst spiritually refreshing and beneficial.

Annual Meeting NEWS: Those gathered listened to a joint presentation on Natural Church Development (NCD) from our representatives; vestryman, Wilfred Alliston and synod delegate Sandra Gereau. NCD is the program chosen by Vestry last May (2010) as the one on offer from the Diocese, most likely to benefit St Peter’s. It involves a Parish Assessment. The assessment is in the form of a survey filled-out by at least 30 persons representing every aspect of parish life! This assessment would identify strengths and weaknesses and we would then work collectively on improvements. The annual meeting also discussed a proposal to develop parish property behind both the hall and the rectory. The proposal would take several years to execute, would involve high-value housing and necessitate the involvement of a developer. Respectful discussion revealed points both for and against such a move on behalf of the Parish. The airing of differing views was most informative and helpful. The differing perspectives will be reflected in the make-up of our new vestry and discussion will continue.

The Rector is most appreciative that some folks did sign up for February snow shovelling.
